Responding to comments made to the BBC by the First Minister suggesting holding a new referendum on splitting the UK during as a priority ‘in the earlier part of the next parliament’, Robert Kilgour, Founder and Chairman of SBUK, the pro-UK business group said:
“Now is not the time for IndyRef2 – all of our time, energy and effort just now should be laser-focussed on securing our economic recovery post COVID-19.
“This announcement by the First Minister is, I suppose, not surprising but it is hugely frustrating and very disappointing. A referendum in 2021 or shortly after would be an unwelcome distraction from the very tough recovery task facing us. It would be absolute madness.”
